Providence Research works closely with the Faculty of Medicine and the Office of Research Services (ORS) at UBC in facilitating grant application processes and administration.

Scientists at Providence Health Care

Providence Research is responsible for the promotion and management of all sponsored research arrangements such as research chairs, research grants, investigator initiated clinical trials and industry sponsored clinical trials  for researchers located at all Providence Health Care (PHC) hospitals affiliated with The University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU).

This includes negotiating, managing and administering industry-sponsored clinical trials; and, administering all other research projects located at PHC.

Faculty Salary Awards

All applications must be sent to the UBC Faculty of Medicine for review and approval before submitting to funding agency. For a full description of the process, please click here.

UBC Faculty Submissions to External Funders

Investigators applying for grant funding must follow specific procedures for obtaining institutional signatures and submission to funding agency. To understand specific institutional and agency specific procedures, please refer to Submitting Your Proposal.

Investigators located at St. Paul’s Hospital may obtain institutional signatures, e.g. Dean’s and UBC-ORS’s, through the Providence Research Facilitation Office at the Hornby Site.

To obtain institutional signatures, complete the UBC Research Project Information Form (RPIF) and obtain the Applicant’s and Department Head/Centre’s signatures. See the UBC-FoM Signing Authority Sheet for the updated signatories. 

The other required documents are:

  • Front page or pages consisting of applicant’s details, title of projects and ethical requirements of grant application.
  • Signature page.
  • Summary or abstract of research proposal.
  • All budget pages including justification.
  • Any letters of support relating to matching funds or collaborations.

Allow for three working days of processing. The applicant or contact for the grant will be phoned to pick up the original. All applicants are responsible for copying and mailing the originals to the Funding Agency.

PHC Staff (non-UBC Faculty) Applications to External Funders:

Investigators with no UBC appointment will need to provide the following documents to the Providence Research Facilitation Office for processing:

  • A complete Providence Research Grant Application Cover Sheet, including Applicants and Department Head/Centre’s signatures.
  • Front page or pages consisting of applicant’s details, title of projects and ethical requirements of grant application.
  • Signature page.
  • Summary or abstract of research proposal.
  • All budget pages including justification.
  • Any letters of support relating to matching funds or collaborations.

Please allow three working days for processing.
