Information for New Hires
Issuing of PHC ID Badges
This card is necessary for all personnel working in St. Paul’s Hospital, and authorization will be provided by your unit manager or centre leader. Protection Services is located on the fourth floor of the Comox building. Your ID Badge is the property of St. Paul’s Hospital and must be returned to your manager or supervisor upon termination or leaving your position.
Hours of Operation
- Tuesday: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
- Wednesday: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM
- Thursday: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
If you lose or misplace your ID card please contact Protection Services at local 68819 so that the card can be deactivated immediately.
Library Card
As of May 1, 2013, UBC library services have changed at St. Paul's Hospital.
Space previously occupied by the St. Paul's Hospital Library is now study space overseen by the UBC Faculty of Medicine, located at Room 1555, Level 1, Providence Building. This space is available to UBC students and hospital employees.
PHC staff who are not located at St. Paul’s Hospital, the Hornby site, or the Howe site may obtain a library card with authorization from your principal investigator, provided that they are a UBC faculty member. Complete the form found here.
If staff does not fall into any of the above categories, please contact research@providencehealth.bc.ca for information about obtaining a community library card.

PHC staff also have access to online journals through the Electronic Health Library (e-HLbc). Staff can access these from any PHC computer, or remotely with a special login and password.
Parking
Parking in the downtown core can be expensive and difficult to find. Underground parking is available for staff at St. Paul’s Hospital. The staff discount rate is currently $5.50 per 14 hours or $12.50 for 30 hours.
Advanced Parking is offering special monthly rates of $100.00 + tax in the Supervalue parking lot (Lot #9027) located at 1237 Davie Street. Email a copy of your ID Badge to monthlyparking@advpark.com. You can also call them at 604-909-3787.
Alternate Parking Options
Sheraton Wall Centre: located at 1088 Burrard Street. Entrance to the parking lot is from Hornby street, just past Subway. Phone 604-893-7186.

St. Andrew’s Church: located behind the Century Plaza Hotel at 1022 Nelson Street, half a block from the Comox Street entrance.

Commuting by Bicycle
There is a special lock-up area located in the Parkade of the hospital. You will need to have access added to your ID swipe card. Please call Protection Services at 68819 for access. Do not lock your bike to anything other than a bike rack, or it may be removed by Security.
YMCA
The YMCA is located just down the street at 955 Burrard Street. They offer a 10% discounted rate off of any of the Adult, Couple or Family rates posted. There is a onetime $50.00 sign up fee. www.robertleeymca.ca
