$1.6M federal grant supports women’s heart health study

Dr. Karin Humphries and her team want to improve health outcomes for women with suspected heart disease. Their “CODE-MI” study is one of several PHC research projects that were successful in the recent CIHR Spring Project Grant competition.

Dr. Don Sin appointed new HLI Director

Dr. Don Sin will assume the role of Director of the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation at St. Paul’s Hospital (also known as the UBC James Hogg Research Centre), effective July 1, 2018.

Research Challenge teams to present their proposals


You’re invited to hear the teams participating in this year’s PHC Practice-Based Research Challenge present their proposals for funding. This annual competition is open to point-of-care PHC staff and offers teams the opportunity to work with a mentor to develop a research proposal around a research question.

Early Onset Heart Disease: What’s in Your Genes?


SAVE BC physicians Dr. Simon Pimstone and Dr. Liam Brunham will present updates on the SAVE BC research program and genetics in heart disease. Dr. Tara Sedlak, director of the Leslie Diamond Women’s Heart Health Clinic, will speak about women and heart disease and Dr. John Mancini, director of the CardioRisk Clinic, will discuss management of cholesterol-related heart disease.

Marx Jayaraman, project manager and CRA, CHÉOS & CTN, will speak on “Risk Based Monitoring” and Leslie Love, senior project manager, CHÉOS & CTN, will speak about the “Ask Me” campaign. HIV Care Rounds: Migration, sexual health and marginalized women


Dr. Shira Goldenberg, a research scientist at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, will speak on the topic of “Migration-related determinants of HIV and sexual health among marginalized women” at the next HIV Care Rounds lecture, hosted by the BC-CfE.

BC Centre on Substance Use hosts Addiction Research Day


The BC Centre on Substance Use hosts the fifth annual Addiction Research Day, a free event featuring oral and poster presentations on innovative research conducted by addiction medicine clinical fellows, research fellows, and trainees. The event starts off with a plenary lecture by Dr. Chinazo Cunningham and is followed by an awards ceremony.

MSFHR Reach Competition

The MSFHR Reach Program provides up to $10,000 in funding to support the dissemination and uptake of research evidence to inform and improve further research, practice and policy-making.

PHCRI Research Day 2018


Organized this year by the Centre for Health Evaluation & Outcome Sciences (CHÉOS), this annual event celebrates the PHCRI research community’s accomplishments over the past year and is a great opportunity to network with colleagues. Dr. Gail Murphy, UBC's VP, Research and Innovation, will deliver the keynote speech. Following her presentation, the 2018 Reserach & Mission Award will be handed out.
