Dr. Liam Brunham receives 2016 Innovation and Translational Research Award
Congratulations to Dr. Liam Brunham, Principal Investigator at the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation and Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine at UBC, recipient of the 2016 PHCRI and VCHRI Innovation and Translational Research Award. This award will fund Dr. Brunham’s project, Targeted Next Generation Sequencing to Improve the Diagnosis and Treatment of Familial Hypercholesterolemia in British Columbia.
PHC Researchers receive Innovation and Translational Research Award
Congratulations to PHC researchers, Dr. Lindsey Richardson of the Urban Health Research Initiative at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS and Dr. Brian Westerberg, Head of Division of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at PHC, and scientist at the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences (CHÉOS).
PHCRI Research Day 2015
PHC scientists, staff, post-doctoral fellows, students and colleagues are invitd to attend PHCRI’s 11th annual Research Day event to celebrate the research community and our 10th year anniversary supporting research at Providence.
This year’s keynote presentation will be delivered by Dr. Dermot Kelleher, VP Health and Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London and newly appointed Dean of Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia. The event will also feature the presentation of the 2015 Research and Mission Award.

PHC Research Institute is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2015 Research and Mission Award.
The Research and Mission Award recognizes a scientist in our organization who demonstrates the mission and values of Providence Health Care while conducting outstanding research. Candidates may be nominated by an individual at PHC and be supported by two PHC staff members.
Announcing the 5th Annual Providence Health Care Practice-based Research Challenge
Want to learn more about research? Got a question from your clinical practice?
PHC launches its 5th annual Practice-based Research Challenge. The Research Challenge is an annual competition open to front-line PHC staff. You and your team members have the opportunity to work with a mentor to develop a research proposal around your research question. You'll learn basic research skills and compete with other teams for some funding to conduct your small-scale research project.
Q&A sessions will be held Jan 14 (St Paul's); Jan 21 (MSJ) and Jan 23 (Residential Care).
2014 PHC Innovation and Translational Research Award
PHC is launching a new funding opportunity to support new or existing research projects led by PHC health care professionals and researchers. The intent of this competition is to fund research that will:
- bring new knowledge into practice and/or policy;
- take research outcomes to the implementation stage, or
create commercial opportunities from pre-existing research outcomes
Applicants for this award should demonstrate in their proposal that the outcomes for their research project will meet at least one of the following criteria:
