The Providence Health Care Research Institute is governed by a Board of Trustees, headed by Dr. Robert Sindelar who holds the position of President.

Robert Sindelar, PhD

Dr. Robert Sindelar was appointed Vice President of Research & Academic Affairs at Providence Health Care and President of the Providence Health Care Research Institute in 2013. In these roles, Dr. Sindelar oversees the research enterprise at Providence as well as strategic and operational collaborations with the universities.

Dr. Sindelar completed a Master of Science degree in 1975 and a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products in 1980 at the University of Iowa. Dr. Sindelar was previously Chair and Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Mississippi (1993-2000), as well as the Interim Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Interim Executive Director of the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Mississippi (2000-2001). Dr. Sindelar is a Professor & and former Dean (2002-2012) of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Providence Health Care Research Institute (PHCRI) is the research arm of Providence Health Care, an academic health science centre affiliated with the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.

PHCRI Organizational Structure

Established in 2005, PHCRI promotes research activities throughout its centres: James Hogg Research Centre, BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences, Centre for Healthy Aging at Providence, and Centre for Practitioner Renewal.
