Welcome Dr. Darryl Knight
Submitted by Fiona Dalton, President & CEO, Providence Health Care
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Darryl Knight to his new role as Vice-President, Research & Academic Affairs, PHC, and President of the Providence Health Care Research Institute (PHCRI). Dr. Knight officially started his position this week.
As many of you know, Dr. Knight joins us from the University of Newcastle in Australia where he was Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy. But he’s no stranger to Vancouver. After receiving his BSc Honours degree in Pharmacology and his PhD from the University of Western Australia, Dr. Knight did post-doc training at UBC from 1995-1997. He was recruited back to UBC in 2004 as the Canada Research Chair in Airway Disease and Associate Professor of Pharmacology. Some of you will remember him from his time as Associate Director of the James Hogg Research Centre (now the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation) at St. Paul’s from 2009-2012.
I am delighted to welcome Dr. Knight back to the PHC family. His role also includes accountabilities as Professor, Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine, UBC; and Associate Dean, Research, Faculty of Medicine, UBC.
At this time, I also want to acknowledge and thank Dr. Don Sin for his outstanding interim leadership. Dr. Sin took on the VP Research position last year while continuing to serve in numerous roles, including as Director of the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation. He has done an exceptional job of providing leadership and support all these months and I am truly grateful for his commitment to Providence.
Dr. Knight will be based at our 1190 Hornby Street office and can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
